Obtaining a “Learner’s License” is the first step towards driving a motor vehicle. To get a learner’s permit, applicants must submit an application to the licencing authority in the jurisdiction where they reside or conduct business. A Learner’s License is a temporary licence that is only valid for six months and is provided to applicants who wish to learn how to drive.

Test for Learner’s License in Assam
The applicant for a learner’s permit must pass a preliminary exam administered by the licencing authority. The test will be administered by the Inspector of Motor Vehicles, and the candidate must demonstrate sufficient knowledge of traffic signs and signals as well as road regulations. Applicants who already possess a valid driver’s licence are excluded from the prerequisite test for the endorsement of a new class of vehicle.
