How Can I Apply for Learner License (LLR) Online in Tamil Nadu
In Tamil Nadu, the age limit for obtaining a Learner Licence is 16 for a Motor Cycle without Gear (with parental consent), 18 for a Motor Cycle with Gear and Light Motor Vehicle, and 20 for all other vehicles. There is no minimum educational qualification required for non-transport vehicle driving in Tamil Nadu, such as Car, Motorcycle, or Tractor.
Applicants who are 18 or over can select their RTO/MVI office using their pin code. Applying for LLR can be done either directly or through a recognized driving school. The online portal is user-friendly and requires applicants to fill in all necessary information and upload documents such as proof of address, proof of age, and medical certificate (if the applicant is over 40).
You can make fees for the application process online or in-person at the nearest SBI branch. Upon payment, you can book an appointment online to have your photographs taken at the RTO/MVI office, eliminating any waits. At completion of the process, you will receive a barcode/QR code acknowledgement slip. Please print this out and attend your appointment at the RTO/MVI office on the specified day and time (arrive no more than half an hour prior). After the Motor Vehicles Inspector reviews your application, photographs will be taken and you can obtain an LLR printout from the portal. This LLR is valid for six months, within which you must apply for your Driver’s License.
Applicants who do not pass the Learner Licence test may retake the examination upon payment of the necessary fees the following day. Should their Learner Licence have expired, they must apply for a new one. The syllabus for the test covers traffic signs, road regulations, duties in the event of an accident, precautions to be taken at unmanned railway crossings, and the documents required when driving a vehicle.
When applying for a learner’s license in Tamil Nadu, the documents required are:
- an application form generated online in Form 2;
- evidence of age;
- proof of address;
- a medical certificate in Form 1-A (if the applicant is over 40 years old and applying for a transport vehicle);
- an application cum declaration as to physical fitness, in Form 1.
- Fees for a single class of vehicle at Rs. 230
- Fees for double class of vehicle at Rs. 380
