Important Note for General Holidays 2023
This list does not include Uttarayana Punyakala, Makara Sankranti Festival (January 15th, 2023), Basava Jayanthi/Akshaya Tritiya (April 23rd, 2023), Naraka Chaturdashi (November 12th, 2023) which occur on Sundays, Mahalaya Amavasya (October 14th, 2023) which falls on the Second Saturday, Khutub-E-Ramzan (April 22nd, 2023), and Maharshi Valmiki Javanthi (October 28th, 2023) which occur on the Fourth Saturday.
On official holidays, all government offices in the state will be closed. Nonetheless, department heads will need to develop plans for the fulfilment of urgent work. If any of the Muslim Fraternity festivals do not take place on the scheduled day, members of the Muslim Fraternity who work for the government may be granted a holiday on the date of observance, taking into account the holidays that have previously been proclaimed.
Kodagu District has proclaimed a local holiday for Kail Muhuruth on Sunday, 3rd September 2023, Tula Sankramana on Wednesday, 18th October 2023, and Hurthi Festival on Tuesday, 28th November 2023. The Education Department’s Commissioner of Public Instructions will issue a separate list of holidays.
In addition to the General Holidays, State Government Employees may take up to two restricted holidays in 2023 if the competent authority issuing Casual Leave grants prior clearance.
Restricted Holidays for State Government Employees in Karnataka 2023
Karnataka’s state government likewise maintains a list of limited holidays for its personnel. These holidays are observed to provide employees with a break from their everyday routine and some much-needed respite. Important Note for Restricted Holidays 2023
This Annexure eliminates November Year (01.01.2023), Devara Dasimayya Jayanthi (26.03.2023), Vishwakarma Jayanthi (17.09.2023), Christmas Eve (24.12.2023), and Holy Saturday (08.04.2023), all of which happen on a Sunday, and Holy Saturday (08.04.2023), which falls on the second Saturday.
This list excludes Souramana Ugadi (14.04.2023) Friday because it is a General Holiday for Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Jayanthi, Swarna Gowri Vrata (18.09.2023) Monday because it is a General Holiday for Varasiddhi Vinavaka Vrata, and Ananta Padmanabha Vrata (28.09.2023) Thursday because it is a General Holiday for Eid-Milad.
Bank Holidays in Karnataka 2023
Karnataka also includes a list of bank holidays that are observed all year. These holidays are observed to provide a break from the regular routines of banks and their workers.
