The department of transportation has a clear vision to provide quality transportation services to the citizens of all geographic locations at a fair and affordable cost. The agency is working tirelessly to increase road safety and ensure that only trained drivers and mechanically sound vehicles use the roads, thereby reducing the likelihood of both pollution and traffic accidents. The State Transport Authority is charged with the duty of fixing fares periodically in consultation with public representatives and private vehicle owners in order to exercise control over requests for excessive increases in bus fares. The department is also keeping an eye on the rising fare at which private transporters tend to operate commercial vehicles.
