KVS Admission for CG Govt Employees 2023-24
If you’re a Central Government employee seeking admission for your child in a Kendriya Vidyalaya, there are certain guidelines you need to follow. To be eligible, you must be a regular employee drawing emoluments from the Consolidated Fund of India and working on a post sanctioned by the Government in a substantive capacity.
KVS Single Girl Child Admission 2023
A “Single Girl Child” refers to a family’s sole child who is female and has no other siblings. In school, only up to two single girl children are allowed per section in class I, and two per class in class VI and beyond, including twin girl children. If the number of applications from single girl children (including twin girl children) exceeds the allotted seats (maximum of two per section in class I and two per class in class VI), there may be a selection process.
For the academic year 2023-24, Kendriya Vidyalaya is offering free education for single girl children and twin girls. For classes I and VI, a maximum of two single girls or twins can be admitted per section. If there are twins, this will count as one admission and both of their names should be written on the same slip when determining the chosen candidates through the draw of lots. If there are more applications than the allotted seats for single girls or twins, the admissions process will be based on the Priority Category. If multiple applications fall under one category, all will be taken into account and the selected candidates will be chosen through a draw of lots.
New Age Criteria for KV Admission 2023-24
The criteria for admission to a KV school for the upcoming academic year has been altered. The minimum age for entry into Class 1 has been increased to 6 years on March 31, 2023. Consequently, parents cannot sign up their children for the 2023-24 term in the Kendriya Vidyalaya admission portal. This modification has left parents perplexed as they think that the past age limit should be kept for admittance to Kendriya Vidyalaya. However, the Central Government firmly declared that the alteration of age criteria has been determined in accordance with the New Education Policy’s proposals.
Here is the minimum and maximum age limit for admission in Kendriya Vidyalayas for different classes:
– For Class I, the child should be between 6 and 8 years of age.
– For Class II, the child should be between 7 and 9 years of age.
– For Class III, the child should be between 7 and 9 years of age.
– For Class IV, the child should be between 8 and 10 years of age.
– For Class V, the child should be between 9 and 11 years of age.
– For Class VI, the child should be between 10 and 12 years of age.
– For Class VII, the child should be between 11 and 13 years of age.
– For Class VIII, the child should be between 12 and 14 years of age.
– For Class IX, the child should be between 13 and 15 years of age.
– For Class X, the child should be between 14 and 16 years of age.
Note: The maximum age limit can be relaxed by two years in case of differently abled children by the Principal.
The admission age limit for Class 1 in KVS is not specified. In terms of Class XI admission, there are no age constraints if the student is applying in the same year they passed Class X. Likewise, for admission to Class XII, there is no minimum or maximum age requirement as long as there has been uninterrupted study after Class XI.

The admission of RTE applicants takes priority, followed by differently-abled children (DA) and those belonging to Cat-1. The admissions under Cat-1 can include SC/ST/OBC-NCL candidates, and the same applies to Cat-2 admissions. The reservation norms are applicable within an approved class strength of 40 students per section, and 3% of the seats are horizontally reserved for differently-abled applicants.

Next, a lottery is conducted for differently-abled candidates from SC/ST/OBC-NCL/Unreserved categories in order of priority. The remaining seats, after deducting the RTE and Differently Abled applicants, are filled according to the existing priority category of Cat-1 and Cat-2 (Cat-1 to Cat-3 in case of Project/IHL KV) up to the sanctioned strength or till all registered candidates from Cat-1 and Cat-2 (Cat-1 to Cat-3 in the case of Project/IHL KV) have been admitted.
Declaration of KVS Distance Criteria 2023
The term “neighbourhood” and a document showing proof of residency are necessary for admission under RTE. Kendriya Vidyalayas are situated in areas with varying population densities, and their neighbourhood boundaries are determined based on the following categories:
- Major cities and urban areas (including all district headquarters and metro areas) have a 5-kilometer radius.
- Places and areas not included in the first category have an 8-kilometer radius.
KV School Fee Admission 2023
The KV School offers concessions for their fees and other expenses. Children admitted under the 25% quota outlined in the RTE Act 2009 are not required to pay any fees. The expenses for NCERT textbooks, notebooks, stationery, uniforms, and transportation will be reimbursed upon the presentation of proper bills for 25% of the children enrolled under the RTE provisions, depending on the ceiling and available funds. Once children are admitted to Class-I under RTE, they will be eligible for exemptions and concessions until Class VIII, either in the same KV or any other K.V. after transferring, as stated by the RTE Act. During registration, parents must provide proof of address. Employees who already receive fee reimbursement from their departments cannot apply for RTE concessions.
